The Age of Cyber Threats: Young Employees and the Startling Lack of Cyber Training
Let's talk about a surprising twist in the cybersecurity world.
You'd think the younger, tech-savvy crowd would be the least of our worries when it comes to cyber threats, right? Well, think again.
A global survey with over 6,500 employees from all walks of life revealed some pretty alarming stats. It turns out, those 40 and under are more likely to throw password safety out the window. Get this – a whopping 34% use their birth dates as passwords, compared to just 19% of the over 40 crowd.
And that's not all.
Using the same password across multiple devices? Yep, 38% of younger workers are guilty as charged. Phishing scams? A shocking 23% didn't bother reporting the last phishing attempt they received. Their reason? "It's not a big deal."
But surely, they know how serious cyber threats can be for businesses, right? Well, not quite.
While 23% acknowledged ransomware and 22% recognized phishing as major threats, the overall attitude towards cybersecurity is far from ideal.
And here's the kicker. A staggering number of those surveyed said their companies didn't provide any mandatory cybersecurity training. From the US (30%) to the UK (17%), and all the way to China (65%), the numbers speak volumes.
So, can we really blame our young workforce when it's clear that businesses need to step up their game and provide the necessary cybersecurity skills?
The bottom line is, it's high time we stopped treating cybersecurity as an afterthought. We need to invest in regular cyber awareness training for everyone in our businesses, not just the tech team or executives, but every single employee.
Because at the end of the day, protecting your business from cyber threats is not just about your assets. It's about creating a safer digital world for us all. Let's make it happen!
